Inspiration Behind the Church of the Baptism of Jesus Christ | Baptism Church

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GLOBE THIS WAS HAPPENING: After this tragedy I returned to reading avidly, which in this period of my life primarily consisted of books on faith and bereavement. While visiting the Stanford University bookstore I came upon a book that caught my eye, “The Language of God” by Dr. Francis Collins. Dr. Collins is an eminent scientist and the Head of the Human Genome Project, and had worked throughout his career on the study and decoding of “the code of life”; the human DNA. In his continuous search for knowledge in science, medicine and chemistry, he made great achievements and major contributions to the betterment of mankind and humanity, culminating with the discovery of the Human genome DNA with a team of two thousand scientists whom he was heading for several years. But what he started and finished in his scientific career, encouraged him to embark on anew quest; a quest to find an answer to the simple question that stems from the moral law: What is it that makes us feel good when we do good?

Dr. Collins, influenced by C.S.Lewis’ writings on faith, Christianity, and the moral law, in his search for this answer he very gracefully changed from an atheist to an avid believer in God and the scriptures, as is titled in the first chapter of the book “From Atheism to Belief”. What a remarkable perpetuation and change of a “beginning” and an “end” in his circle of life! For what once seemed to be a step in the process of scientific research for Dr. Collins, suddenly became the starting point of a new path; a path leading to unshaken faith and wholehearted belief. To Dr. Collins science does not conflict with the bible, it enhances it.

Having read Dr. Collins’ book “The Language of God” but having never met him, I find myself highly respecting and admiring this man for all that he represents in today’s world. In a world where simplicity is forgotten, humility is rare and the basics of life are frequently ignored; where a call for the purity of hearts is most needed so we can reconcile with our friends and foes and walk the path of love, faith, hope and charity spiraling upward in our spirituality and in our yearning to get closer to God, Dr. Collins reaffirms to those who use science as a tool to negate the spiritual side of our human nature, that with an open heart and a deeper look into the facts of life, science is not an enemy of faith, but rather its ally.

Or are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. (Roman 6:3-4)
